*** Please note to upgrade the Firmware for your Player before you start using ***
I currently have a Sony S2000ES BD as my reference player. I didn't want to spend another 1k on a a new BD player, but in the same respect I have a hard time paying $300 for a Sony/Samsung/Panasonic retail store special because they are as light as paper. I realize that it my be more psychological, but build quality matters to me.
Why I went with the Marantz Player:
- Build Quality: Well Build Player with quality components
- Build Quality(2): I like the fact they go the extra step to separate audio from video to improve quality for both
- Warranty: 3 years is important stuff breaks :)
- Solid Match for my AV7005 Preamp
- I bought it from my home theater person and got it for less than what they are selling the used ones on here for
What I really liked... Read more

Chris Dobbins made several comments that have no foundation with respect to the quality of this player. the biggest gripe I heard and not one for me is lack of wireless connectivity easily fixed with a netgear WNCE2001, I have used this device to make non wireless devices connect via wireless. its not plug and play it requires a few simple steps to make it work. the other thing that is some what unfair are the comments about the ingredients to make a cake and no mention of how the the cake finally turned out. what I mean in the simplest terms are if you have a great bluray player like the UD5005 and lack luster equipment and cables how do you expect to benefit from the quality your are paying for in the player. side note, I ungraded from a samsung to the marantz , there is no comparison . not to knock the samsung player but you don't realize what you have been missing until you can see and hear the difference. yes the samsung has... This is not a bells and whistles players. In essence
+ Amazing picture quality (Blu ray and dvd)
+ Audiophile sound quality (Marantz!)
+ Wired network connection works like a charm (though it does not have in-built wireless)
+ Professional reviews indicate that 3D output is amongst the best in class (though I have not tried it)
+ Very solid build quality
- It is not meant for people who want a multitude of online functionality, although the automatic firmware updates seem to constantly add more features (but in all honesty I don't use these online features)
- Loading time is a tad slow, though I think most players are
Finally, it is very similar to the Denon 1611UD though having spoken to Marantz the difference is in the Analog audio output circuit; so if you like your audio it's worthwhile the extra amount.
I connect it via HDMI to a Onkyo Tx NR609... Read more
